CELEBRATING THE YOUTH
A strong part of our interest is the encouragement and development of our local and regional youth in the sport of Open water Swimming. This event has been blessed by the participation of young swimmers from around the region even as young as 8 years old, and we are hopeful this trend will continue.
THE SWIM WAS STARTED AS A WAY OF REMEMBERING AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE SUPPORT OF ONE OF OUR EARLY CLUB MEMBERS 'BENTE WEBER' WHOM WE LOST TO CANCER. NOW IN ITS 19TH YEAR THE ATTRACTION OF THE CROSSING GROWS STRONGER, WITH WOMEN MAKING A GREATER INPACT ON THE EVENT IN TERMS OF BOTH PARTICIPATION AND RACE RESULTS.
We have always tried to link our event with a cause, for many years we supported the Turtle Conservation project here, then we got involved with Special Olympics and helped coach some of their athletes to take part.
